CBBC Blue Peter Presenter and gardening expert, Lee Connelly, also known as The Skinny Gardener, visited Crudwell, Minety and Ashton Keynes primary schools on Wednesday as part of a nationwide tour of schools to get kids excited about gardening.

The tour seeks to educate children on where their food comes from as research shows five per cent think strawberries grow inside a fridge.

At the M&S Foods sponsored tour, pupils were given Little Garden seedlings and with help from Lee, sowed the seeds during an assembly where they were encouraged to nurture the plants at home.

The children’s presenter said: “I hope they find it as rewarding as me when plants burst into flowers for the first time, or see their vegetables or herbs appear.”

In the assembly, Lee also worked with the children and schools to start allotments and to ensure they flourish he will provide regular videos in the coming months with his top gardening tips.
